Testimonial...

Just thought I would start posting the testimonials once and a while - you know to toot my own horn - or show you what other people have to say.

"Chris,

Please accept my thanks for your time and effort on this recent modification.

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to accommodate my needs at short notice, and complete the job with no fuss, and in a professional manner.

I look forward to working with you again in the future, should I have more projects requiring more knowledge than I can muster - every chance of that!!"

Cartweaver Benefits - Part 1

I thought it was fit to tell you some of the coolest things about Cartweaver. So let's get to it -What I love about Cartweaver:

The Support Forums

Ok - it's not really a forum but a newsgroup. This can be a great bonus or a great bane depending on your work flow. Personally I am not a fan of newgroups because it is just one more program I have to open. However this is a list of the features of CW so let me tell you why it's cool - It is very well populated and supported.

It has got numerous developers well versed in ColdFusion and Cartweaver. Not only that - but it is well attended by its owners. You will need a newsreader like Outlook express -ick! or Mozilla Thunderbird - yah! But why wait visit their support newsgroups at: news://support.cartweaver.com. We have dedicated forums for ASP, ColdFusion and PHP. If you are not familiar with news readers there are a variety of news readers available. Also note that you may need to use the address support@cartweaver.com and skip the news:// portion.

The Developers

Feeding off of the newsgroup issue - the developers who attend really know their stuff. You can always find someone who is willing to help you for free or for pay depending on what your needs are. If your question is somewhat basic and the needed changes to accomplish what you need are small - you will generally be given either the answer, or the direction you need by at least a few people on the list.

Like myself there are other developers in the list who will give of their time (Which sadly I haven't been good at lately) or can easily accomplish what you need for a small fee.

The Price

Well it wouldn't be a complete benefits list if it didn't include the price. You can't beat a one time low dollar fee for you to download and install any number of carts on your clients' sites. With the one time fee you get all updates to your cart for free - within that release number. So if you purchased v 3.0 - you got v 3.0.13 , 3.0.14, 3.1 .019. Of course when v 4.0 comes out you know it is well worth the fee again.

Modularity

"How can I put in a link the cart in my site? Can I put a search form in my site's footer?" Well YEAH! Let me just say Dreamweaver toolbar! I hear Angela had a part in the cool toolbar - and it rocks. If you use DW - you want the toolbar. It allows you to easily install Cartweaver, put in links for the cart, search frms or links, and a bit more that I will let you discover. If you use a better IDE like maybe Eclipse - well you are stuck on that end - but simply looking at the sample you will see that inserting a search form is as easy as

cfmodule id="CW3Search" searchtype="Form" template="cw3/CWTags/CWTagSearch.cfm" formid="frmKeywords" buttonlabel="Search" keywords="yes" keywordslabel="Type words">
/cfmodule>

That's it for now. Tomorrow we will look a look at Culture, Extensions, downloadables and more.

Be Blessed!
Chris

Cartweaver Modifications

Today I just wanted to take a short time and go over some of the modifications that I have done in the past for clients and for other developers - and also some mods that I haven't done that seem to be needed...
  • Integrate Live Shipper data (UPS, USPS, Fed Ex, Canada Post, etc.)
  • Integrate an affiliate system
  • Allow multiple payment options - not just one universal one. (you can choose one from many, not multiple methods in one transaction)
  • Wholesale pricing
  • Reporting in the admin (cost of current inventory, items sold during x period, etc.)
  • Adding in lightbox or other 'cool' image display system
  • Wishlists
  • Product Reviews
  • Only allowing shipping to a specified delivery area (florists for example)
  • Adding custom text to an item. (for example a floral card will say "happy birthday" on one flower and "love forever" on another bouquet - all in the same order. Or you might be ordering a ticket for a recurring concert on day x - and two tickets for the same concert on day y)
  • Adding vertical category listings as well as the default horizontal
  • Charge shipping based on a percent not on a dollar amount. (For shipping add on 10% of the total order)
  • Adding a "copy product" button to the admin
  • Site Map Generator
  • Themes
  • Mailroom
  • Import / Export Products
  • Send This Page to a Friend
Well those are just a few modifications that I have had to do in the past or have seen many many requests for and never done. I hope to hash them all aout for you at some point in the coming months. Of course the next version may be out by the time I do and it may have them - who knows.

Until next time - God Bless!

Cartweaver Reviews - Why?

I thought I would start this blog with the simple question - why review Cartweaver? Well I have to say is for the simple reason that I love the thing and it deserves a review.

Side note: I am not paid to promote Cartweaver. I have purchased the Cartweaver shopping cart myself in the ColdFusion format and nothing else. I have installed it in numerous client websites and I have modified the source code all hte way back to version one!

First off the software was built with developers in mind. I have to say when I was new to ColdFusion and looking for a shopping cart - there were about 6-10 shopping carts that I looked at and to be honest - they did too much for me the beginner. I wanted to LEARN. I needed a place to start learning about shopping carts and the cart put together by Lawrence and his team was the one I settled on.

I will say the installation leaves a little to be desired - but again - it was very useful to learn more about ColdFusion. However they give you the dreamweaver toolbar add-on and Angela and her team did a fantastic job on that as well.

Well that is it for now - I will start chronicling Cartweaver and go through a basic install of the current version (v3.) over the next few days and show just how easy it really is and why you too should use Cartweaver.

And yes I will tell you the things I find to be a draw back as well - but there aren't many.

As Paul Evans Loves to say - Be Blessed!
